Episode 1: 6:00 AM - 7:00 AM
Protestors surround CTU headquarters, protesting its history of civil rights violations and demanding that it be shut down. Director Alberta Mosely calls in Head of Field Operations Ian Rawlings and tells him that the head of the protestors, Deena Katz, has pull with the State Department, and she's going to come in to talk to them as a result. Katz talks to Rawlings and makes it clear that she's staying until she gets some answers from the director, and Rawlings leaves with Terry Governe and Archie Darrin to back up the field team.
Meanwhile, in the jungles of Brazil, the military team consisting of David "Umbra" Egan, "Ace" Gromer, "Bullfrog" Hodges, Horatio "Bones" Stevens and Kevin "Tabby" Pham is looking onto a shanty town where intelligence has indicated the kidnappers are located. They scope out the area from a ridge, but don't want to go into town until they get some more cover. Fortunately, a rain storm is brewing.
At the White House, in a secure room, William Katz, Undersecretary Gregory Barnes and Brazilian Minister of Justice Paulo Oliveira watch satellite tracking of the military unit via a laptop connection maintained by Homeland Security tech Chloe O'Brien. While they wait for the team to move, there is a knock on the door, and Deputy Press Secretary Erin Wagner comes in to get Katz to talk to Harrison Bell, who claims to know something about an illegal military operation in Brazil. Bell talks to Katz, who gives him a "no comment," but who detects that Bell definitely knows something, and that he's mostly looking for an on the record denial to bolster his piece.
Amina Jumoki and Ian Westmore, operating undercover, approach the burnt out open air garage that serves as base of operations for drug dealers Haley Simms and Derrick Ballen. Haley greets them with a friendly, stoned sensibility, but warns that Derrick is freaking out, really angry and tense about introducing them to their connection. When they go talk to him, Derrick is indeed freaking out, talking a mile a minute and talking about how he's worried that "Gerard" might come in and pop all three of them. Ian picks up on Derrick's tone and asks if he has pissed off Gerard, and Derrick admits that he fell short on the last payment, but he has the money now. Amina spots that Derrick is carrying a pistol. Amina and Ian offer up their flash money so Derrick can mollify the connection and make the introduction, and he wants them out of the room, so the two CTU agents reluctantly go out to stay with Haley. However, as Rawlings and the techs in the surveillance vans spot a pair of black SUVs pulling up, the agents make excuses to slip away. Westmore goes to a spot where he can see into the garage, and Amina goes to a crop of trees where she can see the SUVs. She sees that there are drivers in the still-running SUVs, and everyone, save Derrick and Haley, can tell that there are about eight men, seven of them carrying shotguns and one of them, Gerard Vasquez, is carrying a pistol. Strong identifies Vasquez as a Mexican professional smuggler. It looks more like they're coming for an execution than a meeting
Episode 2: 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM
Back in Brazil, the rain has started, and Egan has gone down to scout out possible locations for their target. He finds two houses, one a smaller operation that looks like a drug house, and another that looks like the target. There's a guard with a pistol at the door, four men playing cards in the back and stairs leading up, probably to more men, plus a door that looks like it leads to a basement. When he goes back to report, prodded by "Ace," he thinks he remembers a pickup at the back. The team begins making plans for an assault.
In Los Angeles, Gerard goes in to talk to Derrick, who offers up the money and talks about wanting to introduce Gerard to new business associates. Gerard likes the money, and sends two of his men out to Haley to get the new business associates. While Westmore tries to stay out of site, Amina goes back over, pretending that she was going to the bathroom, and Westmore is forced to play the same tactic so he can back up his partner. They go in to talk to Gerard, who is smart but somewhat arrogant, and who confronts them and tries to get them to admit whether or not they're cops. Westmore manages to talk his way around it, and Amina tries to get Gerard to offer up some illegal activities, but he is cagey, and starts making implications that he's going to kill Derrick. Amina acts first, pistol-whipping Derrick and suggesting that he demote Derrick to working beneath them. Gerard likes her guts (and probably her tits) and agrees to this deal, and then he and his men leave, after agreeing to another meeting in a few days.
The military team sends Horatio and Pham over to the drug house to start a distraction, which they do by firing into the house and killing the drug dealers. Unfortunately, the only result is putting the kidnappers on high alert, as the men at the card table pull out Uzis and start watching more carefully. Convinced that this is the house, the military team takes a few minutes to get into position and then launches their assault. A combination sniper shot from "Ace" and follow-up burst from Stevens puts the guard at the door down, as "Bullfrog" throws a flash-bang into the house and Egan throws a smoke grenade in through the kitchen window. As Egan enters from the back door, using his UV goggles to move immediately to the basement door, "Bullfrog" and Stevens run in to lay down suppressing fire on the men at the table, who flip the table over to provide cover even as one of them is killed by the submachine gun fire.
"Ace" slings his rifle and climbs up onto the roof, and as he does so he spots someone running across a board into the second story window of the house next door. He is about to report when all of their communcations mysteriously go dead.
Episode 3: 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM
"Ace" rushes up and chases after the escapee, who moves quickly and slides down to a motorcycle in an alley two houses down. He gets on it, but not before "Ace" sees him and uses his sniper rifle to blow out the tire. Rodrigo Dominguez has no choice but to flee on foot. Fortunately for him, he's fast enough that he gets away into the jungle despite "Ace"'s pursuit. Due to the communications lapse, he can't tell the team what he's up to, and his yells go unheard by everyone but Pham, who sees him going but can't follow.
At the White House, Chloe O'Brien expresses frustration as the communications go dead and the satellite link begins fuzzing. She can't understand what's going on, but it looks like something big, as all of the Homeland Security networks are experiencing difficulties. In addition, there is increased chatter across the network that makes it look like there are a large number of coordinated terrorist strikes in motion across the nation.
Back in Brazil, Horatio is gunned down by the men behind the table, and Egan finds that the door is reinforced metal, resistant to his weapons, and he instead turns and rushes up the stairs to intercept the three shotgun-wielding men rushing down. He grabs a shotgun and flips one of the men down the stairs, knocking him unconscious, as the other two open fire on him and on "Bullfrog." "Bullfrog" cuts down one of the men next to the table as Egan uses the butt of his shotgun to smash one of the men in the nose. He responds by shooting Egan in the shoulder, but Egan is able to finish him off with a shotgun blast. The other one jumps down to shoot at "Bullfrog," but he misses, and Bullfrog doesn't miss his return shot, killing the enemy and ducking against the wall to avoid the fire of Uzis from underneath the kitchen table. As Egan moves to the basement door, Bullfrog fires at a ceiling fan, dropping it down so that it knocks out one of the men at the kitchen table and ripping the kitchen table away so it no longer provides cover. That turns out to be irrelevant, however, as Pham rushes in the back and guns down the last hostile before telling the others that Ace was in pursuit of another hostile.
As the CTU team follows Gerard's SUVs, they suddenly lose both their satelite links and their communication with CTU, and are reduced to eyes-only pursuit. The SUVs eventually turn off onto a dirt road, which Westmore knows cuts through a large valley and ends up at another highway, but they suspect that the SUVs are going into some sort of makeshift hideout. Unable to follow in the vehicle without being seen, the three field agents continue on foot, leaving Darrin and Governe to try and fix their uplink.
Bullfrog uses a stolen shotgun to blast the door open, and they find Rocha's daughter tied up, scared, but safe, and they make their way out to find Ace. They tell him to drop the trail and head with them out into the jungle where they can regroup and figure out what to do next. Meanwhile, Egan returns to the house and sets fire to it, concealing any evidence that might have been there.
Back at the White House, Chloe isn't having much luck with the communications, and another problem presents itself as Deputy Press Secretary Wagner comes back, telling them that the First Lady has asked to speak to all three of them. They go to her office, and she tells them that she's been in communication with Harrison Bell, and she wants to know what they're involved in. Undersecretary Barnes politely but firmly tells her that she doesn't have the clearance for it, and she needs to talk to Homeland Security or NSA before he's cleared to tell her anything. She responds by calling Head of Homeland Security Bill Buchanan, and telling them that she'll wait until he gets there.
The CTU team follows the trail and discovers some sort of makeshift camp, involving a 100-foot fence, a pair off buildings and all the security that they saw with Gerard before, although they don't see Gerard. They call in to Mosely, who tells them that she can send a tactical team out to their position, and it should be there in fifteen minutes. As Westmore and Rawlings argue about whether they should launch an assault or lay back and wait, they watch Gerard supervise the removal of a twenty-something Hispanic girl's body from one of the buildings out into a shallow grave.
Episode 4: 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM
In Brazil, the team finishes their walk to a nearby village, where Egan calls Rocha and lets him talk to his daughter. When Egan tells Rocha that one of the kidnappers escaped, Rocha tells him that they need to go find him and kill him. Don't let him talk, he says, because he has information I don't want getting out, but I don't want any of the scum that took my daughter to live for another day. Egan relays to the team that a helicopter is on its way to extract them.
At the White House, Bill Buchanan arrives to talk with the First Lady, and he backs the three men by telling her that she doesn't have clearance for the information, and that Homeland is busy with the network difficulties. The First Lady tells them that she's going to go talk to the President, and she'll be back in touch. As they walk out, Buchanan tells them that it appears that what has happened is some sort of virus that has hit the Homeland Security network, and that they were getting a lot of chatter suggesting nationwide terrorist attacks, but that seems to be an after-effect of the virus. Oliveira asks if the First Lady will get approval from the President, and Buchanan allows that she probably will. When prodded, Buchanan tells Oliveira that he should go and talk to Chief of Staff Norman Lamont, who will probably be able to speak to the President and prevent the First Lady from getting her way.
Westmore and Rawlings further argue about the assault, leading Westmore to attempt to go over Rawlings's head by calling Director Mosely. Unfortunately for Westmore, Mosely backs Rawlings' play. The tactical team arrives as Westmore and Rawlings stare daggers at one another.
In Brazil, the helicopter arrives, and provides Egan with private communications headsets, since their communications uplink has been cut. Egan explains to an unhappy team that they have been tasked to find the last kidnapper. Pham rebels, but the others reluctantly agree to follow orders, since they are technically still on mission.
Oliveira goes to meet with Lamont, who agrees to talk to the President and keep him from exposing the operation. In order to keep Bell from running what he has, Oliveira and Lamont decide to give him the story about the Homeland Security virus attack, since that news will no doubt get out anyway. On the way out, he spots Sheila McKay, a lobbyist with RKN International, who had been talking to Lamont before Oliveira went in.
Barnes and Katz go to talk with Chloe and Bill Buchanan, and are told that they can restore communications, but if they do so, there's a very strong likelihood of classified communications going out over relatively open wires. On the other hand, they can shut down the system and try to clear it, but that will take down intelligence and military communications across the nation, even if it will mean maintaining security. The Defense department votes to keep communications open, the State department votes to shut it down, and the State Department wins out. The Homeland Security networks are taken offline so that Chloe and her team can get to work on them.
Episode 5: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
In Los Angeles, the tactical team hits Gerard's base, and after an extended gunfight, they manage to take Gerard alive. They find that the two buildings are packed full of weapons, drugs and a lot of scared Brazilian nationals. In addition, they find what look like plans for a massive, statewide kidnapping operation that was clearly to take place about five hours ago.
Back in Brazil, the military team follows Rodrigo's tracks, and they find that he has been captured by a group of Marxist guerrillas in the jungle. He is tied up in a tent, surrounded by close to a dozen young men armed with AK-47s. Spurred by something that Pham says, Egan comes clean with the team, admitting that his boss told him to kill Rodrigo and not to let him talk, and he suggests that instead they need to take him alive.
The First Lady goes to talk to the President, but she is intercepted by Norm Lamont, who tells the First Lady that the President has already sided with him, and that Lamont has already planned to release a story to Bell that will keep him happy. He tells her that she doesn't need to know what's going on, and neither does her husband if he wants to avoid political heat. She gets angry with Lamont, but doesn't have any political capital to burn or moves to make in response.
In Los Angeles, the CTU team returns to CTU with Gerard in tow, and Mosely orders Governe to set up recording equipment in interrogation one. However, she isn't alone. Standing with her waiting for the team are FBI Special Agent Kristin Hall and her partner, private retrieval specialist Preston Archer. The two of them have been put on the kidnapping case that CTU just discovered as of earlier this morning, and they need to talk to Gerard to find out what he knows.
The military team manages to spook the guerrillas using heavy weapons fire, and Egan stealthily drags Rodrigo back into the jungle. The military team is unable to see what's going on as Egan whispers into his ear that he needs to stay quiet or Egan will kill him.
Episode 6: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Back in Washington, Katz makes a phone call and leaks the Homeland Security news to Bell, as ordered by Oliveira on behalf of Norm Lamont.
In Brazil, the team interrogates Rodrigo, who is terrified especially when Egan mentions RKN. He is even more terrified when Ace uses Egan's silenced pistol to put a bullet in his leg, and tells them that if they'll let him go, he'll lead them to a much larger kidnapping ring in Brazil. He claims to have been operating with his own small crew, and that the military team killed them, and that's all he knows. Egan goes to whisper something in Rodrigo's ear, and Bullfrog and Ace grow suspicious, leaving Pham to guard Rodrigo while they talk to Egan and try to figure out what game he's playing.
In Los Angeles, While Rawlings and Amina debrief, Archer and Westmore plan to interrogate Gerard as Hall observes from behind the glass. Gerard is cool and arrogant, and Westmore detects that he's much more afraid of his bosses than he is of anything CTU can do to him. Archer spills water on the recording equipment, short-circuiting it, and tells Westmore that he should get Kristin and take her to get a cup of coffee while Archer continues the interrogation. "I'm a private citizen, I'm not bound by the same rules that you are." Westmore resists, trying to interrogate Gerard, but it's clear that it's not working, and he reluctantly agrees to Archer's plan, leaving Gerard alone with the retrieval specialist.
Back in Brazil, Ace, Egan and Bullfrog are arguing when they suddenly see Pham start beating on Rodrigo, and Bullfrog is barely able to grab him before he gets his sidearm out and shoots Rodrigo. He starts telling them that Rodrigo told them he had reinforcements coming, and boasting about how worthless their dead soldier was, and they all begin arguing about whether they should just follow orders and shoot Rodrigo dead. Again, something Pham says about military honor reaches Egan, and he tells them that he's been trying to keep Rodrigo from talking, but that he's now convinced that his bosses at RKN are on the wrong side of this, and he didn't quit the Navy SEALS to be a bad guy.
Episode 7: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
In Washington, a subplot which the player characters have no knowledge of moves forward.
In Brazil, the now-unified military team interrogates Rodrigo, and they become convinced that he is telling the truth, but that the kidnapping ring he's talking about is worth investigating. They get him to give them the location and then they turn him loose, telling them that if he survives, he had better play dead, as Egan is going to report him dead to his superiors. Egan calls in and tells Rocha that Rodrigo is dead, but then pretends to lose communication before any further orders can come in.
Back at CTU, Rawlings and Amina finish their debrief, and walk out to see Kristin and Westmore getting coffee. Rawlings is angry, and asks if anyone is in with the suspect, when Archer emerges, shaking his head and saying that he tried, but the suspect wouldn't talk. When Rawlings goes in to check on the suspect, he sees him finishing the act of slitting his wrists with a pen. They call in the medics as Gerard begins having seizures.
In Washington, Chloe O'Brien and her team continue to work on clearing out the virus and getting the communications back online. She promises progress in the next hour.
Back in Brazil, the military team has found the kidnapping ring, which is holed up behind an impressive compound, masking itself as a car lot, but clearly much more secure than that. They also spot someone in a trenchcoat and hat walking around, either perimeter security or casing the place.
Back at CTU, Gerard is pronounced dead, and accusations are thrown at Archer, but he protests his innocence, and the team goes to look at the video. Unfortunately, for the time that Archer was in there, the video is gone, and Archie looks into it to see that Governe turned off the video monitors from his station. A forensics tech emerges from interrogation one with the suicide weapon bagged, a CTU pen that was clearly left in the room by Governe when he was setting up the communications equipment. Mosely orders Governe taken into custody.
In Brazil, Ace spots the trenchcoated man taking pictures with a camera that he slips into his pocket. Egan pursues him quietly down an alley, but the man seems to know he's there and quickens his step, heading for the alley exit. Egan rushes up to try and tackle him, but at the last second, the trenchcoated man grabs him and flips him over. His hat flies off and he swings a gun down into Egan's face, revealing his identity: It's Jack Bauer.
